Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a major film company and introducing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser avoids is why Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her shirt.
Hopefully she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
