Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by just one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before sprint qualifying set to begin at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he rotated at the fourth corner soon after starting.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before rotating through the gravel trap, and was fortunate to avoid just a minor contact of the barrier.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the session, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn approaching the final bend on to the main straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the remaining drivers, with the German's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
